Ben Allison is a slick damn fella. I remember being at a record shop about 4 or 5 years ago and liking his cover art. I sampled his record in the store and went into a trance when I heard his first track on the record (respiration). You don’t need to know anything about music to know that he’s an outrageously creative and inspired musician. This track is loaded…absolutely loaded.

my word. it’s been quite some time since I’ve written or posted anything on my tumblr. a lot has happened in a relatively small amount of time. time keeps passing and passing, things keep happening, it’s all pretty exciting. I’ve recently taken a new job and will also be moving into a new place with a wonderful friend of mine. I can’t possibly convey how excited I am to physically live in Charlotte now as opposed to the boonies. I’ll hopefully be doing a lot more bike riding/friend hanging/beer drinking/fun stuff/city running etc…

I’m really digging the way the place looks and I have to give props to my room mate Toree for finding this place. I’m going to take some pictures once we get it all sorted so everyone can see the lovely work we’re doing to make this place look swinging.

Now that so many things are falling into order I feel like I need to at least attempt to play music in a live situation. It’s been such a long time since I’ve performed out on my own and I’m really itching to do so. If you’re an awesome musician, you’re touring all the time, AND you’re reading this, I’d greatly appreciate you scooping me up and allowing me to play music with you.

years and years ago I was deeply in love with the mercury program. I completely forgot about this group after I lost some of my cds years ago. This is a jam off their new record. Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas — Chandler Martin featuring Christopher Kincaid

I recorded this song ages ago but it still stands out as one of my favorite recording sessions I’ve ever done. I recorded this song as well as Sweet Home Chicago with Chris Kincaid. I remember leaving his house knowing that he and I spontaneously performed a duet that was almost too good to have been planned. I’ve not spoken with him in ages but I’ll never forget just how fun this session was. Please enjoy!

So I entered into another 5k and was bound and determined to do a little bit better. I came in 30th place out of 495 and completed the race in 22:34.643! I knocked an entire minute and change off of my time woohoo! I was feeling incredibly proud of myself as I was approaching the finish line until a 10 year old came speeding by and finished before me. I guess I’ve got a little bit more work to do.

I’m going to crawl into bed and begin this book in preparation for my Savannah trip this upcoming Friday! I’ll very gladly accept any suggestions for wonderful things to do in Savannah if anyone has any.

oh the happenings of this day and night have me quite awake. I’m excited for this Friday when I’ll get to see one of the best musicians alive today. I can’t wait for this small little road trip. This of course will be preceded by the congregation of friends near and dear to my heart on our weekly Thursday meet up/drink up. The state of the world seems more and more a mess to me which makes me increasingly glad to be around folks who are happy, confident in their beliefs, and above all, positive and optimistic. This concludes my late(ish) night ramble.

This weekend was absolutely magnificent. I spent a good bit of time with wonderful friends, old and new, and did my absolute best to take in as much of fall as possible. I absolutely can not wait for this coming month; it’ll be full of road trips, good food, time with friends and new experiences. There are so many things I want to do, so many friends I want to see, and so many new places I want to experience. I know how quickly time passes and I most assuredly will not take it for granted.
