From the first listen of Dizzy Gillespie’s “Mantecta” I was in love with Latin Jazz. I think there’s something so organized, while simultaneously spontaneous, about Salsa/Mambo/Meringue and Latin Jazz. It’s interesting how layered and sophisticated it is. Some find these genres to be redundant but if you really listen it’s mind blowing how much is going on. I recently stumbled across another artist, Cuban born Cachao, who is an absolute genius. From the little I know he’s one of the many unsung heroes of Latin influenced Jazz and I’ve really enjoyed listening to him. Here’s a good live track.
