I’ve had this book forever and recently decided to give it a shot. After all, a lot of my pals actually really legitimately enjoyed this book AND it’s been adapted to film including the critically acclaimed actor Michael Rooker who once guest appeared on CSI. This is the kind of book that disappoints me because the story is something I’m interested in, but the way that it’s told prevents me from being able to actually enjoy it. The horn of self congratulation rings so loudly throughout this entire book that it’s almost difficult to continue in reading it.
Okay Okay Timothy, after you spent 35 pages describing how progressive and non-racist your family was I think everybody gets the point. Pump the breaks! Bear in mind I’m no literary critic…in fact, small children have read more books than I have, but when I do read a book I want to escape in the story. Perhaps my expectations going into this were wrong, but I wanted to learn about what happened in Oxford, not about the Tyson family.
